manic monday.

Today was another first for our family - the first day Kris and I BOTH had to go to work and let someone else watch Kale. Luckily I was working from home. I say luckily because I'm insane and still not ready to leave Kale with someone other than his dad for more than 3 minutes. Yeah, I'm that mom.

After two terrible nights of sleep, Kale slept like an angel last night. Which in my world means that he only woke every 2 hours, nursed, and went right back to sleep. Basically it was the best sleep ever. Anyway, I'm just mentioning this because for the first time in weeks Kale actually slept in until 7am (opposed to his preferred waking time of 6am), which meant that we both had to scramble to get ready in time.

Here's Kris trying to brush his teeth with Kale eyeing up his toothbrush.
Kid is OBSESSED with toothbrushes.

Kris's mom, (Nana if you're Kale), was going to head over at 8:30am to start watching Kale for the day except her car wouldn't start! That's because it was -20C (without the windchill). INSANE. Luckily Kris was working close by and went to pick her up and bring her over. Kale was pretty excited to have a full day with his Nana and even more excited when he saw she brought xylophone. Party time.

Here's Kale working on his beats.
While Kale and Nana worked on a few tune's for their rock band, I had to tear myself away and plant my behind at my desk. Kris painted the office for me a couple months ago so I could have a nice, serene work space, but I've done little else with the space. *sigh* One day I'll get to that...

Wait, does the peacock count as decor?
I like working at home because I get to take breaks and hang out with Kale, rather than with my coworkers at the water cooler. I mean, I like my co-workers, but seriously - nursing my baby boy in bed is about 8000 times better.

I actually look at peace in the middle of my work day. It's a miracle.
Kris's dad (OJ - Opa Junior, if you're Kale) came by at the end of the day to pick up Nana and at about the same time I wrapped up my work day and Kris came walking in the door. Kale got a bit overwhelmed and had a five second meltdown. Then Kris played him a song on the xylophone and all was well again.

Kris has mad skills on xylophone.

When everyone left, Kale immediately did this:

This was pretty much perfect timing since it gave the boys some time to cuddle and me some time to get dinner ready. Tonight we had roasted red pepper & zucchini on foccacia bread with goat cheese and pesto and these amazing sweet potato fries with lime dip.Seriously people - if you need to kick up your sweet potato fries I highly recommend this recipe. HIGHLY. I could have eaten them all, but Kris and Kale made me share.

Nom.Nom.Nom.

Kale's enjoyed dinner too, and let me know by pointing at me. Ok, so he points at everyone. Well, everything. Little man cannot stop pointing.

After we got Kale bathed, we let him run around naked for awhile. When I say "run around" I mean it. Well, technically he scuttles around. But SO FAST. He can make it from the living room to the toilet in about 0.6 seconds. The toilet is some kind of magnet to his pointing finger. They're connected in ways I'll never understand.

At this point I clearly deserved a treat and so I sent Kris to the store for a healthy snack.

What? Chocolate isn't healthy?

  5. You are too funny. I enjoyed this post immensely. I am so impressed that Kale has such a passion for toothbrushes. Cole is never interested in any one thing. I keep hoping that he'll stop what he's doing and examine something for longer than a few seconds. This is where they are NOT alike!

  6. Can Kale bring his xylophone to Cuba? I want to jam with him.

  7. That is so cute. Mad xylophone skillz need a video to show them off! Isaac is obsessed with toothbrushes. We brush teeth all the time.

Strawberries are even healthier when covered in chocolate!
