Oh hai! What's that? I won something?? IMPOSSIBLE! Oh wait. It's not the $50 Etsy giveaway that Sara at Saige Wisdom is currently hosting? It's a Terrible Blogger award for taking off on vacation, leaving my loyal readers with no posts? Hmph. Oh wait x 2. Those awards don't exist? I CAN'T WIN ANYTHING!!
So yeah - we went on vacation. Camping in New York with my blogging BFF Bianca from Not Your Average Ferris Wheel. And the only picture I took was this one of my son pooping on the side of the road in Napanee, ON. Parenting win, am I right?
Now back to our regularly scheduled program.....
The low-down: Use our themes, use your own themes - just tell us what you're "currently" up to! This week our themes are: remembering, learning, wishing for, considering, and cooking. If you'd like to let us know what someone else is currently up to - your child, your partner, your grandma - we like that too!
Please remember to add your link at the bottom so we can find you, and copy and paste the button code into your post so others can find us and link up too! Also be sure to visit the other participants and say hello - especially my lovely co-host Wendy at This Amazing Day!
Remembering a slug that we found living under his chin. While camping in the cold and wet land known as Lowville, NY, we became pretty tight with spiders and slugs. Kale, the lucky kid that is, inherited my round face which has resulted in about 14 chins (down from 32 when he was a baby). So it came as no surprise when we found that a slug had taken up residence somewhere between chin 8 and 11. Kale thought this was awesome and has been telling everyone about the slug on his chin, even insisting that it's still cozied up in there.
Learning that not everything is his. I mean, I think he's learning this. I tell him this at least 40 times in 40 minutes. But considering the pitch he hits when he screams "MINE! NO BUBBIE! IT'S MINE!" when the cat isn't even on the same FLOOR of the house, I'm not entirely convinced he gets it.
Wishing for us to visit all the trolls that live under bridges. When we were crossing the border into the US, we told Kale that there was a toll bridge. He immediately translated this into Dora-speak and almost lost his mind when he thought we were going to see a TROLL BRIDGE. The rest of the weekend he would say, "maybe we go see troll bridge?"
Considering maybe everything? Kale has become obsessed with the word "maybe." He starts every sentence with "maybe." Maybe I go to the bathroom? Maybe that's a chair? Maybe I see troll bridge? Maybe I roast marshmallow? Maybe you're the cutest kid EVER!
Cooking marshmallows over the fire. It's probably not a good idea to have a toddler stand so close to an open fire pit, but convincing Kale of that was next to impossible. Besides, he's a pretty decent marshmallow roaster and he doesn't even want to eat them. He just roasts and feeds them to me. Is there anything better than a personal marshmallow roaster??
Remembering why I love camping so much. Seriously - it rained on us for four days and we froze our butts off, but I still LOVED our trip. With no wi-fi (and some serious roaming charges), there was no connection to work, and something about being in the woods helps you let it all go. It was a refreshing break from the stress and fast-paced work environment I deal with. Also, you don't have to shower and you're allowed to eat all the snacks in the world without feeling guilty.
Learning how friendships built through blogging are supposed to look in real life. I had a bad experience one of the first times I tried to make a blogging friendship happen in "real life." I was super disappointed and hurt by the experience and it made me a bit weary about meeting bloggers IRL. However, I have to say that, thanks to Meg, Lisa, and Bianca, I'm learning that friendships can be taken offline and be amazing.
Wishing for comfortable temperatures to sleep in. After three nights sleeping in a cold, wet tent with champion snorers, I was wishing pretty hard for a night in my bed. However, we arrived home to warm temperatures and our bedroom, which is in the attic, was like a sauna. Instead of waiting for the a/c to cool it down, I stumbled onto the couch downstairs and cracked a window, wich let in the cold air as the temperatures dropped overnight. Have I mentioned how much of a mom-onster I am without sleep??
Considering an American road trip this summer. My family travelled through the US a lot when I was young, but I don't remember much of it (except Graceland - that's just something you don't forget). After driving through New York State on our way home, Kris and I started talking about doing a bit of a road trip through the US in late August. I mean, all you American bloggers would let us crash on your couches, no?
Cooking s'mores. I mean, with a personal marshmallow roaster at my fingertips, am I really supposed to make anything else??
Next week's themes: Inspired by, Devouring, Thankful for, Watching, Starting

You are killing me with that picture. My girls will be doing the same thing tomorrow and Sunday, as we make the 6 hour drive to Minnesota and back. I'm so glad we're not the only ones.
ReplyDeletePersonal marshmallow roaster, I'm so jealous! The slug thing gets me!
ReplyDeleteThe story about the slug was the best ever! I'm glad you had a chance to get away, unplug and enjoy some camping. The fact you forgot to take pictures is a testament to the kind of break it must have been!
ReplyDeleteStuart and I sat in our living room pissing our pants at Kale saying: 'maybe I see troll bridge?' HA!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd totally let you crash at our house but it would be August in Texas and I would be a fool to let you come here then. It.is.miserable.com
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness now do I want a smore more than anything else!
How long do you think the slug was there before you found it? That is hilarious.
Keith read your blog post and the first thing he said was - they can totally crash here and we can rent a van and go down to the city or we can meet them in the city! So yeah - if part of your American road trip includes NYC, and you are up for hanging, we would love to see you again! We had such a great time with you guys. Meeting you was my first attempt at creating a friendship offline and I am so glad I did.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, I love this currently post and the last one. You crack me the hell up.
I think this was my favorite line: And the only picture I took was this one of my son pooping on the side of the road in Napanee, ON. Parenting win, am I right?
Oh my gosh, Mason is totally always telling the dog and the cat that stuff is his, even when they are sitting across the room not so much looking their way!!
ReplyDeleteCome to Wisconsin!!! We have really good cheese here! And Kale could pet a cow. That's about all I have for ya though....
Soooo... I'm clearly behind! I just saw your currently post for today and realized I missed this one =( I'd like to say it's because I've been so busy or tired or something.. but you know the honest truth? I think instagram is taking over my blogging time! (should i admit this?!) -- seriously.. all the time i used to put into reading blogs, etc.. is now being split between blogs and ig. stefano asked me if i think i might be addicted. HA! maybe? pathetic i am.
ReplyDeletesooo cute that kale starts every sentence with the word maybe... i'm loving this fisrt sentence stage of their lives!! seba's loves asking us questions and then looking at us intensely saying "okk?" but you have to hear the way he says ok... the BEST. ahhh.. love these guys!
anyhow.. i could blab on but i'll save it for your current currently. ps. i had an EXTREME fear of having a bad blogging meet-up friendship thingy go wrong.. which is probably why it took me so long to actually meet up with you ladies -- but i'm so happy i didn't let my usual anti-social self make the decision because i also learned that i can make online friends.. or friends period... i do wish we lived closer to each other thought.
just realized i did blab on and on. sorry!
ps. i should really re-read my comments for typos before posting.
