Kale is currently....

Watching lots of Dora and Curious George, and also some Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. We're not quite sure how he got into the Mickey Mouse - probably a random tap during a YouTube session on the iPad led him there. Regardless, he's hooked. When it's 5:30am and he decides he wants to wake up and party, I could almost care less about what he's watching.

Reading some new favourites, including Mealtime  (if only he'd pick up a lesson or two from this book about staying in your seat until you're finished eating), Love You Forever (I think I'm an animal - I no longer get teary eyed reading this one), and Little Star's Big Adventure (again with the Dora....but this book comes with a flashlight which is GENIUS).

Eating pretty much whatever is put in front of him - unless it's dinner, which he rarely eats these days. Kale is not a picky eater and doesn't really seem to have favourites. I mean, if you ask him what he wants he will almost always say "Pasta!" but I think this is more about being the only thing he can drum up in the imagination, opposed to being a favourite.

I am currently.....

Watching Downton Abbey. There was no way I could wait until January for it to come to North America, so I've been streaming the new episodes (currently being shown in the UK) online. Is anyone else watching?? I'm always up for a good DA gossip session, so let me know. I'm also enjoying Parenthood, Parks & Recreation, and Grey's Anatomy.

Reading The Next Best Thing, by Jennifer Wiener. I normally love her books - smart chick lit, really. But this one? This one I cannot get into. Other than that, I'm reading the usual - blog posts and research reports.

Eating Halloween candy. I know - ALREADY! Last night Kale and I went to the bulk barn and bought a few treats. And by 'few' I mean 'a 2lb. bag of chocolate peanut butter pumpkins.'

Inspired by Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard. You've watched the video, right? No? Go watch, I'll wait: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihd7ofrwQX0

Thinking about how much I like this link-up. Despite the fact that I'm always pushing these posts out at the last minute and it takes me a week to read through everyone's posts, I really enjoy having these little 'currently' posts to look back (especially because I'm no longer doing monthly updates for Kale).

Side note: Today is the last day to vote for Harvesting Kale in the Circle of Moms Top 25 Canadian Moms. I'm hanging on my thread and would appreciate all your votes. Just click HERE, looking for Harvesting Kale, and click VOTE.

  3. thank the lord that Kale is hooked on Dora!!! can you believe Seba is only now discovering tv? we rarely watch it, so I don't think he knew it existed until one fine day GRANDMA let him in on the secret! hahah. We don't mind him watching at all, especially since he actually learns from it ( we didn't want to admit this, but it's pretty obvious).. we just don't want him to love it to the point where he ever chooses Dora over going for a bike ride, or doing anything else besides watching Dora. you know? anywho, he currently runs around the house screaming "swiper no swiping" to an imaginary character that apparently takes his shit and hides it. bwahahaha. I'm not gonna lie, I kinda love it.

    1. Haha - Kale does the same thing! He'll be running around and then suddenly stop and say "Oh! What was that? It sounds like Swiper the fox! Swiper no swiping! Swiper no swiping!" It's so funny.

Kale enjoys watching tv, but never asks for it. He's pretty much just a morning tv watcher, which helps with me being able to get ready for work. I'm totally with you though - the tv will leave the house the day he picks it over playing outside or painting a picture.

  4. I HATED Curious George at first, but that silly show has grown on me. It's like, what are these dudes going to let this monkey do this time? Watch a baby? Direct traffic? Cook dinner? Sure! Why not!

  7. That's a great video of Gillard! Thanks for sharing. :) Looks like our boys have the Mickey Mouse thing in common.

  8. We love Mickey Mouse Clubhouse! I adore it because it's fun and teaches math, patterns, colors and shapes.

  9. Cole also likes Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, but I kind of hate anything Mickey Mouse. I blame his previous day care for introducing it to him. I really try to limit his tv watching to shows I can tolerate and that send a positive message, teach some sort of a lesson, or emphasize art and/or music.
I'm pretty sure I read The Next Best Thing and liked it. I really enjoyed Fly Away Home, which I think is her latest book or is very recent. Currently, I'm waiting for a book by Emily Giffin since you have mentioned it in more than one blog post. Going to give the audiobook a try.
